It includes 8 points that describe the company's position on social investment, which determines its refusal to participate in arms sales to representatives of the dictatorial regime, from investments in tobacco companies and organizations involved in the production and sale of natural fur.

Co-operativebank was one of the first English banks to publish an annual report (for 1997) on the policy and program of social responsibility. The company regularly undergoes social audit and establishes its marketing policy on ethical principles.

In addition to the introduction of CSR in business practice, publishing its policies and reports, the bank spends more than $3.2 million on various socially significant programs.

OK-20 - Take into account the consequences of management decisions and actions from the standpoint of social responsibility.

How to start the process of integrating social and charitable projects into the business and corporate culture of the company? What to pay attention to? Can we achieve win-win and in what way, what is necessary and useful for businesses and NGOs to derive from this cooperation? These and other questions will be answered by the HR Director of the advertising group of companies RCG Elina Polukhina.

I want to talk about how the integration process has been and is going on in our group of companies. Much of what we offer our customers in this area, we first try on ourselves. That is why social and charitable projects have long been integral part our corporate culture.

We have accumulated a lot of experience: we have our successes, discoveries, there were mistakes and failures. And most importantly, our projects are alive, they continue and will continue, and therefore the story will be almost online. And since it is impossible to describe all our projects in one article, it will be a whole series of materials, in each of which the reader can find something necessary and useful for himself.

But first, I would like to tell you what path almost every Russian company goes through in the field of social and charitable projects, to show you an overview of the development of charity in Russian companies over the past 10 years.

So, stage number 1.One-time donations "on request".They are also called "targeted assistance". This may be a personal initiative of the owner of the company, or it may be an initiative “from below”, from ordinary employees.

For example, at my previous place of work, employees sometimes collected money for an operation for a specific child from Rusfond. And at the current place of work, a similar initiative was launched about 10 years ago by the owners themselves, which has become a long-term tradition of December trips to the orphanage.

Stage number 2. Charity events.

The main condition is the presence of an idea for the sake of which actions are held, for example:

Assistance to the participants of the Great Patriotic War for the Victory Day;

Greening the city;

Collection of things, etc.

At the beginning of 2016, my colleague Olga Lomova, head of special projects, and I discussed the possibilities of our cooperation with her and agreed that the most interesting and promising for us is the development of CSR, social projects and the theme of charity as part of the corporate culture. From the point of view of the HR strategy, KPIs in the field of corporate culture, loyalty and HR brand were already determined at that time, see the table.

Evaluation factor

Fact according to the results of the survey (2016)

Goals (2020)

General level of employee engagement

7,36

The level of job satisfaction in the company

7,64

Employee loyalty level

Employer brand through the eyes of employees

(HR brand)

7,85

Employer brand through the eyes of candidates

(HR brand)

Approximately 30% of vacancies are filled by candidates high level from competing agencies. They apply with a desire to work in RCG.

For an objective assessment of the results, we have conducted and will continue to conduct an annual survey that contains questions about charity and the attitude of employees to this topic, how important and significant it is for them that such work is carried out in the group of companies.

We started with a number of social and charitable actions:

Runs in support of the Life as a Miracle Charitable Foundation as part of the Moscow Marathon;

Collecting things for a charity sale;

Collection of gifts for the elderly - wards of the "Old Age in Joy" foundation;

Participation in the program of social adaptation of children from orphanages together with the Here and Now Charitable Foundation, etc.

We held strategic sessions for three charitable foundations - Life as a Miracle, Sheredar and Sport for Life, known for the Marathon in the Dark project, and for one public foundation - Fatherhood, and also developed several creative concepts socially oriented projects for the charitable foundations "Life is like a miracle", "Sheredar", "Old age in joy", "Volunteers to help orphans", for the public Foundation "Fatherhood", for the Foundation for the Promotion of Harmonization of Relations between Animals and Society "Not Just Dogs » (P.E.T), etc.

Carrying out all these actions, we, firstly, looked at the interest and activity on the part of our employees - something was more successful and aroused more interest, something, as they say, "didn't work." And in parallel, we looked at the useful result that we brought to the funds. It was a trial and error method, a period of collecting and analyzing information, as well as the results obtained.

Stage number 3.Program charity.

Sooner or later, any company on the way to the implementation of social and charitable projects comes to the third stage. She is distinguished availability of management tools: project missions, goals and objectives, deadlines, KPIs, implementation tools, as well as the global nature of the problem as a whole, which requires time and money. This is already a full-fledged project work.

Which way did we go? First, we studied in more detail the issues that interested us, namely the issue of social adaptation of pupils - graduates of orphanages. Going into adulthood, they have a very limited social experience, they do not have the knowledge and skills necessary to start an independent life. Hence the sad statistic:

40% become alcoholics and drug addicts;

40% go into crime;

10% commit suicide

and only 10% somehow adapt in society.

Having studied this issue in detail, we decided that we need to focus on the issue of social adaptation and career guidance for children from orphanages. We have defined for ourselves the mission of the project, which sounds like this: "Involve as many people as possible in the social adaptation of children from orphanages: orphans and children left without parental care."

In 2016-2017, we have already taken the first steps within the framework of this project, organized master classes for children from orphanages together with the Foundation, launched our project “Cool thing” to help the Foundation financially in the implementation of activities under the social adaptation program.

In 2017, we were ripe for the independent development and implementation of a long-term project for a specific orphanage in the Moscow region. The essence of our project is social adaptation and vocational guidance orphanage pupils. The target audience These are 9th grade students. The term for which the project is designed is at least 1 year, but I think that in reality it is 2-3 years.

Together with the leadership of the orphanage, we have identified the tasks that need to be implemented within the framework of the project:

To form in adolescents the motivation for learning and development;

Help with choosing a profession (in June they will enter colleges and vocational schools);

Psychological development of adolescents for further integration into society (to form a sense of responsibility and independence, develop skills interpersonal communication, to teach acceptable expression of their emotions, to constructively resolve conflicts, to form an adequate self-esteem).

So where are we now:

We developed a program for 2018, which was approved with the leadership of the orphanage;

Decided on a project partner - the Elder Brothers Elder Sisters Charitable Foundation;

On June 30, 2009, the First All-Ukrainian Business Case Contest on Corporate Social Responsibility (hereinafter referred to as CSR) officially started. The organizer of the competition is the Center for the Development of Corporate Social Responsibility with the support of Ernst & Young, VOLIA, Austrian Airlines and Asters Law Firm.

A business case is an innovative decision of a company in a strategic context, which positions the goals and environmental conditions that affect the decision. It is also a great opportunity to study and evaluate the professionalism, habits and competence of the company's management. Of course, this is a simplified form of presenting a company's innovative solution, but since the emergence of a business case at the Harvard Business School Law School in 1869, it has not lost its popularity. This is evidenced by the agreement of this business school with the writer D. Steele to process business cases and present them in an exciting way. By the way, the business case arose out of necessity, because the teachers at Harvard Business School realized that they could not find good textbooks on business administration. So they started interviewing the best managers and write down their management principles, so that they can then discuss with the trainees and make recommendations regarding the company's actions in the described situation.

The idea of an all-Ukrainian competition of business cases with CSR also arose from the need to convey corporate social responsibility to the curricula of universities and business schools. The authors of the first manual on CSR, which is being developed today, asked the company to provide Ukrainian case studies. We only received in response general practices and foreign experience of companies in CSR, which did not meet the task. That is why this competition was initiated.

Based on the text international standard according to ISO 26000 social responsibility, CSR should be understood as the responsibility of a company for the impact of its decisions and activities on society and environment. This concept has its own components, namely: organizational management, observance of human rights (including gender equality), good labor practices, environmental protection, consumer protection and community development, social accountability. It is these components that have become separate nominations of the competition.

It can be recognized that an event took place in Ukraine that could cause a wide movement of followers in the world. For today in different countries world, there are two types of CSR business case competition. Firstly, it is the creation of a database of the best practices of companies. Secondly, this is a game competition, when university or business school students are presented with a real situation or problem, and they must develop a solution in teams. In Ukraine, these two ideas have been combined into one — a competition of business cases on CSR, where there are both the best practices of companies and a real game situation for students. Of course, the very idea of business cases and their collection is not new: different magazines, expert organizations collect and publish them. Sometimes companies themselves hire business school teachers to describe the company's practices and management decisions and then start teaching them. And this is the dissemination of the company's experience to tens, hundreds, thousands of people.

Business schools are the most active in developing business cases. But there are organizations that combine the experience of business schools and have entire collections of cases. For example, the European Case Clearing House, which united about 600 business schools and corporate members (only Philip Maurice is a corporate member from Ukraine) and collected over 35,000 business cases. Unfortunately, only 17 of them can be found there from Ukraine. So, we hope that our competition will help increase the representation of Ukrainian practices in the curriculum of business schools.

The overall goal of the competition is to present companies' decisions in the field of corporate social responsibility as an integral part of the organization's development strategy.

An international study in 2009 by the Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College proved that the implementation of CSR helps to improve financial performance by enhancing the company's reputation (77%); attracting talented employees (55%); response to society's expectations (35%); improving operational efficiency and reducing costs (34%); strengthening of the competitive position (33%); opening up new opportunities for growth and improved risk management (23%); improved access to capital (4%). Therefore, these facts confirm that corporate social responsibility itself can be considered a case for business.

But another question arises: is corporate social responsibility a business case for companies operating in Ukraine? To what extent was the introduction of a CSR strategy or programs useful to them? Are companies staying true to CSR today, in difficult times? I am sure that the contest will answer not only these questions. Its other tasks are:

— search, selection and creation of a database of the best practices of companies in CSR;

– combining the experience of companies and business schools/universities: companies have good CSR practices, and representatives and teachers of higher educational institutions have the knowledge and competence to describe all this;

— promotion of the image of Ukrainian companies and their CSR projects in Ukraine and abroad; – obtaining expert advice on the necessary decisions of companies in the field of CSR: that is, the company will provide its business case, and experts will be able to advise whether it was right managerial decision;

— introduction of case study method on corporate social responsibility in universities and business schools. The competition will be held in two stages. The first stage, during which participants must prepare and submit business cases, will last from June 30 to September 30. During the second stage in October, the cases will be evaluated by an international jury. The international jury included representatives of eight countries, including Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Norway, Poland, USA, Turkey, Ukraine. Almost all jury members are teachers or trainers, two of them teach at business schools (BI Norwegian School and St. Galen University of Management). We hope that such an international jury will be able to easily determine the best among the seven mentioned nominations and distribute points from zero to five according to the following criteria: innovativeness of the solution, practical significance, implementation of the solution, socio-economic results for the company, socio-economic results for the region, form of presentation business case.

But this is only the first stage of the assessment. For a business case to become a business case, it must be played. Therefore, the best, according to the jury, business cases will be submitted to practical lessons for students and top managers, where they will be considered in terms of interest in teaching and finding other management solutions. It is this criterion, called the “multi-functionality” criterion of a business case, that is the most important, and therefore the maximum score for it is 20 points. After summing up, the best business case will receive the Grand Prix of the competition.

The business case must be provided in Ukrainian and English. The problem described in it should relate to real Ukrainian practices in 2005-2009. Already today we have proposals from companies that started doing social responsibility much earlier - back in 1998, but these pioneers can also apply. The main thing is to have: a real business problem that required or requires a management decision; chronology of the development of the situation, fixing its time frame; and evidence - specific data (numbers, names, modifications of products, services, etc.), indicating the reality of the situation, event.

Participants can be any legal and/or individuals, who are citizens of Ukraine, who at the time of applying for the competition were 18 years old, including Ukrainian and international companies; higher educational institutions; business schools; public organizations; MASS MEDIA; experts, etc. An interesting point is that within the framework of the competition, participants who have a desire, but do not have a practical case, and vice versa - participants who have a case but do not know how to write (that is, companies and teachers) will be able to register as willing participants, and they will find a mate. On the one hand, this will allow companies to save time and resources for writing, on the other hand, it will allow teachers to save time on searching.

The best business practices will be included in the first CSR manual edited by the CSR Development Center and published as a separate publication.

Of course, there are risks in holding a competition. Some doubt that companies will be able to provide cases, others suggest that there will be too many of them. But communication with companies is still a little calming. Of course, a lot of work will still have to be done, since the competition is the first, pilot, and meetings have already been scheduled for two months in advance. But there is one consolation: companies in Ukraine have good practices and are ready to talk about them, and not leave them under the carpet. They understand that their cases are already waiting for the younger generation of managers who are ready to learn from Ukrainian examples, discuss them and find new, perhaps even more promising solutions.

December 12, Kyiv - The National Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Case Competition has determined the winners. For the fourth year in a row, the competition has been held by the Center for the Development of Corporate Social Responsibility with the support of the general partner - Ernst & Young, the mobile partner of MTS Ukraine, the international partner - the Ukraine-US Foundation and the law firm Alekseev, Boyarchukov and Partners.
