Since the 17th century, in connection with the expansion of the southern borders Russian Empire, the need for navigation in the Azov and Black Seas increases, the foundations for the repair and construction of ships and ships are laid.

In 1865, in a place convenient for parking and repairing various ships, on the left bank of the Don River, the shipowner Storozhenko A.M. a ship-repair workshop is founded with the placement of the first slipway in Rostov-on-Don for lifting ships. Later, the merchant Feofani F.Kh., having bought from Storozhenko A.M. a plot of land, builds a steam ship lift, and ship repair shops of Louis Dreyfus and Olchi-Ogly I.N. are formed nearby.

By the end of the 19th, ship repair shops located in the District of Rostov-on-Don carry out serious repairs and maintenance of sailing and steam ships that carry cargo in the Azov-Black Sea basin.

The merger in 1918 of the workshops located on the current territory of the plant into a single ship repair enterprise was further development ship repair in Rostov-on-Don. During this period, the team restored and repaired cargo steam schooners and steamships: "Belbek", "Adler", "Achilleion", "Khosta", "Poti", "Soviet Russia", "Red Sailor" ("Empress Maria") , "Yeisk", "Mariupol" and others. The result of the expansion of the plant is an increase in the volume of work performed. From 1928 to 1940, the ships Komsomolets, Kavkaz, Maikop and dozens of others were repaired. In 1939, the ship repair workshops were transformed into the Krasny Moryak plant.

With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the plant was forced to evacuate. Part of the workforce, together with the equipment, was transferred to Krasnovodsk, thereby giving rise to a new plant. A significant group of specialists headed by director Stenko M.I., who was appointed to head Shipyard"Red Forge", sent to Arkhangelsk. Having taken key positions in a new place, Rostovites have mastered the issue military products, construction of sea barges, repair of warships. During this period, the Krasnaya Kuznitsa plant became a leader among enterprises in its industry. In 1943, the factory workers who remained in Rostov-on-Don began to fulfill military orders for the front. The Red Seaman plant was the first of the enterprises to announce the start of work in the newly liberated city with a factory horn. During the war years, along with the fulfillment of military orders, the Krasny Moryak plant carried out work to restore the plant’s workshops, repaired the Fanagoria icebreaking tug, and participated in the restoration railway bridge across the river Don.

Having reached the pre-war level of production in 1947, the plant's staff repairs the ships Lukomsky, Mezhen, Rostselmash, Nikolay Ostrovsky, Soviet Bukovina, Jupiter, Pyatiletka, Sedov, Yenisei, N. In 1963, the plant began building project No. 1411 road boats. On July 3, 1965, the lead raid boat with a passenger capacity of 50 people was launched. In March 1994, the plant was transformed into Joint-Stock Company Open Type (OJSC) "Sailor", and since 1996 - in the Open Joint Stock Company (OJSC) "Sailor".

In 1997, the plant was included in the ASTON group of companies, which became a shareholder and partner, directing investments to restore and develop the production potential of the plant. Since 1998, the company has been intensively modernizing its fixed assets. Part of the territory with the quay will be transformed into a port. From 2003 to 2010, re-equipment, repair and modernization of ships of various classes is carried out: Lydia V., Aston-Trade, Germes, Aston Challenger, Aston Explorer, Aston Prilyud, Volgo-Balt 206, Volgo-Balt 208, "A.
