When the front porthole is in place and wrapped, the diver standing on the signal, by striking his helmet with his palm, lets the descender know that everything is ready for descent. The diver should not immediately rush into the water, but, holding on to the handrail of the ladder, descends to the last step and, only having acquired some buoyancy, can let go of the handrail. After that, the diver standing on the signal leads the descending diver from the ladder to the side and, as soon as the water covers the helmet, suspends the descent so that the diver checks his equipment again. The diver standing on the signal at this time also carefully examines the lowered diver and, making sure that everything is in order and the air is not poisoned anywhere, begins the descent. This moment is recorded in the log as the beginning of the descent.

If underwater lighting is required for work, then the light bulb is supplied to the diver while he is at the side of the longboat, and it lights up only after lowering into the water. When the diver descends, the diver standing on the signal etchs the signal end, intercepting it "hand by hand". For beginner divers, the descent speed should not exceed 4 m/min. For the experienced, it is much larger - 14 m in the first minute, with a gradual increase in the next.

Divers should be trained until they reach a sinking speed of 55 m within 3 minutes. Through long training, you can achieve a higher lowering speed. For example, recently in US Navy the diver's lowering speed of 61 w was reached within 40 seconds.

The person following the readings of the manometer must report to the diver standing on the signal about the change in pressure after 1 m.

If the diver gives a signal to stop, the descent should be stopped, after which the diver is raised by 1-2 m. Further descent is made only after receiving a signal from the diver to continue the descent; after that, the descent is made more slowly. As the depth of the dive-diver increases, the air supply must increase accordingly. As soon as the diver reaches the ground, he must inform the diver standing on the signal, otherwise the latter must himself ask him about it.

As soon as the diver reaches the ground, he must listen to whether the air is well and in sufficient quantity, after which he gives a signal that he is on the ground. If the air supply is insufficient, it requires an increase in supply. At the slightest dizziness or nausea, the diver should demand immediate recovery. A diver standing on a signal is forbidden to give much slack to the signal end in order to constantly feel the diver; he should not be distracted by anything, but concentrates all his attention on the signals given by the diver. If for some reason he needs to take a shift, then, having received permission from the work manager, he must, in the presence of the intervener, ask the diver how he feels; after this, he transmits the signal end to the intercessor and, when he in turn receives a response from the diver, he can consider himself free. Air to the diver should be supplied in the amount of 40 l / min. The pump handles must be rotated smoothly, at a speed corresponding to the depth of the diver's descent.

If telephone communications with the diver for some reason interrupted, this should be immediately reported to the work manager. The diver standing on the signal asks the diver at the signal end whether everything is fine with him, and if there is no answer to the double request, he must immediately raise the diver. A diver working on the ground, moving a considerable distance from the place of descent, should not gain much slack in the hose and the signal end, so as not to confuse them for something. If during the work the hose or signal end becomes tangled or pinched, the diver immediately takes measures to clean it. A pinched or tangled signal end can be cut so that the cleared ends are tied with a straight knot. When the hose and signal line are so entangled that the diver himself is not able to untangle them, he must call for the help of a second diver. The latter, when descending, is supplied with a sharp knife and needle-nosed pliers. If the joint efforts of both divers fail to release the hose, then, having cleared the signal end, as indicated above, and having taken a sufficient amount of air into the shirt, the diver cuts the hose, stretches and bites the spiral with needle nose pliers, and then gives an alarm.

Less desirable, but another way is also possible: the diver sequentially cuts the signal end, tail, hose and weight braces and, having thus acquired positive buoyancy, is thrown to the surface, making sure not to bleed the air with the head spool.

If the forced rapid ascent of the diver is carried out from a depth of more than 12.8 m, the diver must immediately be lowered again to the previous depth and, after holding it there for one minute, the ascent should be made in accordance with the existing rules.
