Center for wood carving Tatyanka. Wood carving "Tatyanka": the choice of tools and materials for work

Artistic woodcarving has always been of interest to lovers of decorative woodworking. Unusual wooden figurines, decor items and furniture depicting scenes from people's lives have always been very popular. Many styles of working with wood are available not only to professional craftsmen, but also to amateurs. The technique of artistic wood carving "Tatyanka" has won wide popularity.

History of appearance

Succeeding in carving is possible not only with talent, but also by regular repetition of what has been learned, improving the acquired skills. Everyone who starts wood carving needs to consider in detail its various techniques. All of them help to create decor elements that differ from each other. The Tatyanka style arose at the end of the 20th century. It was created by Shamil Sasykov, who was a master of the art school of woodcarving. He studied the technique in detail and revealed all the possible subtleties and secrets.

Technology features

The style that arose in 1990 after a successful creative experiment turned into a separate system. About 10 thousand craftsmen have already fully studied this direction of carving.

The main feature of the Tatyanka woodcarving technique is that processing of a decorative element is carried out using a special tool for carving only once. This method helps to create various decorative elements using special tools.

If you use other styles of wood carving, the duration of the work increases significantly. When using Tatyanka, the master requires a minimum of free time.

It is important to select a tool for work taking into account all the features of wood, which can be both soft and hard. They must be of high quality sharpened, otherwise it will be inconvenient to work. The style of such a carving is multi-layered, so it implies transitions from one stage of work to another. If the master cuts the first decorative layer incorrectly, the following elements will not work out beautifully and elegantly.

To achieve a masterpiece of wood carving, you need to carefully consider each stage of the artistic processing of the product. The phased execution of the work, as well as the uniform arrangement of the elements on the surface of the board, must be thought out as carefully as possible. The part cut off due to one wrong movement cannot be restored.

Artistic processing in this way is considered quite promising. If you learn this carving method at home, you can always find a job for yourself. Products in the Tatyanka technique are popular among buyers.

There are other ways of carving for beginners: through, flat-notched, sculptural, and also embossed. Unlike them, the author's carving "Tatyanka" does not require much work and time from the master.

Ways to work

Wood carving, depending on the technique used, in without fail must be carried out with the appropriate tools. So, for a through thread, which is distinguished by the volume of the products created, a saw, chisel or jigsaw is used. This method is called openwork, it is actively used for decorating the house.

A characteristic volume is given to things with the help of relief carving. The main requirement in this case is the execution of the drawing on the same level with the general background or slightly above it. The flat-relief type of carving suggests a cushion and selected background. In the first case, the background and the picture should be located on the same level, in the second case, the picture should be above the resulting background.

Unusual work using a chainsaw has become widespread in Lately. Sculptural format carving is a more complex technique, but at the same time interesting and unusual. Creating correct and harmonious proportions from raw wood helps to create an unusual animal or structure from the material. Most often, experienced craftsmen resort to the help of imagination, making the sculpture more natural.

Before a more difficult stage of work, you should practice on light sketches, using the carving tutorials, in which you can find simple circuits and sketches from detailed description. First you need to cut out figures of small diameter, while taking into account a more accurate design and detail. Proper carving requires constant honing of skills, which helps to improve the quality of products over time.

Flat grained wood processing is divided into the following varieties:

  • geometric;
  • filiform;
  • black-lacquer;
  • contour carving.

To work in this technique, you must first prepare simple sketches, a chisel, code and wood. Creating geometric contours and patterns on a product involves cutting rhombuses, squares, hexagons at different angles. A recess should be made with a chisel at an angle of 90 °. Nearby at an acute angle, you need to create a beautiful pattern, using brackets on a wood product for this.

Contour carving involves the formation of round grooves and triangles by drawing a pattern. Experts recommend that before starting work, cover the surface of the product with black varnish or paint, and then cut out the planned drawings.

Workplace preparation

Artistic carving should be carried out in a carefully prepared workplace. The master needs to find any wooden plane with a flat surface. A table or workbench is best suited for work, as they are stable and have a table top that simplifies work.

It is allowed to use a polished table on which you can put a piece of plywood or a drawing board 20 x 20 cm. This will preserve the integrity of the surface and protect the tool from breakage if it accidentally sticks into the tabletop. When creating a part, the training board is not attached, it can be used without a stop. If lime is used for work, it is important to remember that it is particularly soft, so it can rest against a harder part. After that, unattractive pits and damage will appear on the tree.

Lighting in the room should have a broad or natural spectrum, as the procedure is considered quite complex and requires care. Light should not be reflected from the board into the eyes of the master.

Sketches outlined in pencil will eventually be erased during work, as a result, the tree should remain completely clean without color contrasts. Rough terrain, casting additional shadows, can be easily distinguished.

The surface that dries up during operation must be sprayed from time to time to keep it in working condition. Humidity in the room should range from 12 to 15%.

The board can be moistened in advance by moistening its ends. Each board has its own parameters, so its moisture content can only be determined empirically.

Necessary materials

Wood for carving should have a smooth surface without characteristic dents. There should be no knots or other defects on a wooden product. If the master decided to use wood with knots for work, they can be decorated during work. In the future, you can improve the overall appearance of the composition by applying the Tatyanka carving technique. To work, you need the following materials:

All this leads to the formation of splintery areas on the product, as well as sharp chips. The presence of any inclusions in the material always has a negative effect on the processing of wood.

If you need to take a break between work, do not cover the board with a wet cloth or wrap plastic bag. This will lead to the development of germs, bacteria, darkening of the board and the spread of mold. Boards are best stored indoors where there is no heating - on the balcony, in the bathhouse, in the shed. It is forbidden to store study boards in the sun, in the basement, bathroom and refrigerator.

Basic Tools

To work better, you should first prepare a set of tools for carving. It must have characteristics calculated for the processing of plastic wood species. If you use factory or home-made devices, they will not cope with the task, but will only damage the surface, since they will not match its characteristics.

If a beginner uses other wood cutters for work, this will greatly complicate the learning process, and the type of work itself will not change. To learn lighter ornaments on wood, it is important to purchase a special student set. It will contain:

  • chisels No. 6 and 17;
  • joint knife

Chisels for training should be of a semicircular type (radius) of medium size. They differ in the profile of the blade, which, when cross-sectioned, creates part of a circle. If you place the chisel on the wood end, and then turn it around the axis, the knife should freely cut through the surface, closing the circle.

The chisels that are used in the work must make a deep cut, so it is important that they are maneuverable and well suited for an inexperienced craftsman. The joint knife is the main tool for carving. This name was given to him because of the shape of his blade, which is distinguished by an oblique cut. The knife-jamb is used for the middle hand. From the handle to the heel, it should have such a length that the heel freely reaches the hand of the master.

Attention, only TODAY!

The technique of wood carving "Tatyanka" appeared relatively recently. It was patented in 1991 by Shamil Sasykov, the head of the author's art school "Tatyanka Center" and the author of several monographs on the technique of this type of carving.

A feature of the Tatyanka technique is the singularity and uniqueness of each cutting operation, which requires the use of special tools and the use of original techniques. Most of the products decorated with this carving are author's, design works, and the objects decorated with it are real works of art.

Features of the thread

The basic principles of Tatyanka are as follows:

  • The selection of the tool is carried out taking into account the characteristics of wood - its hardness, texture and structure.
  • The work is carried out only with sharply honed tools.
  • Taking into account the fact that the Tatyanka carving is multi-layered, the processing of each subsequent layer is started after the completion of the drawing or ornament of the previous one.
  • The multilayer nature of the threaded field requires special care in the phased processing of the layers.
  • With poor-quality or incorrect execution of the previous layer, it is almost impossible to eliminate its defects by subsequent cutting of wood.
  • Unlike through, flat-notched sculptural and relief carving, mastering the skills of "Tatyanka" takes a shorter time.
  • Performing artistic carving requires not only a special tool, but also the right organized workplace.

Job Description

To perform carving work in the Tatyanka technique, the carver, regardless of whether he is engaged in this craft professionally or carving his hobby, requires a specially designated place.

The ideal solution to this problem is a carpenter's workbench, a tilting easel mounted on rigid supports, or a dedicated worktable. Hobbyists often use an ordinary kitchen table, on which a drawing board larger than 20.0 × 20.0 centimeters is laid on top.

Considering the painstaking process of cutting wood and the difference in the hardness of wood of different species, which requires a greater or lesser thickness of single-cut chips, workplace should have properly organized lighting.

The luminous flux should not give glare from the environment and minimize the shadow from the hand and tool. The ideal solution is combined lighting, when a bright diffused light source is supplemented by a directional focus emitter, the position of which can be changed.

On a note!

The uniformity of light illumination is also necessary for accurate transfer of sketches to the surface of a wooden plank, in addition, sufficiently deep recesses are made during the cutting process, and if they are darkened by an incorrectly directed light flux, the drawing may turn out to be defective.

Features of work performance

The best material for carving in the Tatyanka style, according to most carvers, especially beginners, is linden. In the process of cutting out a pattern, a wooden blank must have a certain moisture content, and most importantly, do not overdry. Therefore, the workpiece is periodically moistened.

Unfortunately, there are no specific criteria for humidity, and it, as in any creative process, pick up empirically- by trial and error. According to most lovers of artistic carving, to maintain a plank blank in proper condition, it is enough to wet its ends without overwetting them.

For the manufacture of kitchen boards, trays, trays and other kitchen utensils with flat surface. The blank board should have a flat surface, with the same type of wood structure without knots.

Experienced carvers, on the contrary, consider knots an additional element of decor and skillfully playing with them with an elegant carving pattern, create exclusive compositions. Items decorated with Tatyanka carving and additionally decorated with other techniques - appliqué, modeling, drawing, engraving look quite original.

If the cut of the board was made near the bark with an extended pattern of wood layers, then it is better to refuse such a blank. The ideal option is boards obtained from the central part of the log, bordering on its core. In addition, boards cut from the extreme parts of the log are quite difficult to process and require sharply sharpened tools.

Inexperienced carvers may have uneven and splintery cuts. At the edges of the workpiece, chips along the extreme layers formed by a cut along the growth rings of wood are not ruled out.

On a note!

If for some reason the drawing is not finished and a break is planned, then the board should be wrapped in several layers of newsprint and put away in a cool place. It is strictly forbidden to store boards in the sun, in a refrigerator freezer (which is recommended), in a bathroom or other rooms with high humidity and temperature changes.

Tool selection

Taking into account the ever-increasing popularity of home needlework, and the fact that self-made carved products are an excellent means of decorating the interior, today special sets of tools are baked for carvers working in the Talyanka technique. They can be ordered through the online trading system. The beginner's set includes two chisels, with semicircular and straight edges of different sizes, and a joint knife.

Please note that commercially available tool kits are designed to work with soft, hardwoods. Experienced craftsmen working with oak, cedar and precious woods prefer an individual order of the instrument.

Video

In the video tutorial below, you will learn how to properly prepare the tools for the job.

Carving has long been associated with a particular area. For example: in the north, where walruses are found, this bone-based needlework is developed. In places of stone caves and deposits of semi-precious stones, the art of their processing is widespread. Due to the large areas in Russia occupied by forests, woodcarving is widely developed. There are many methods for this needlework, and more recently, another one has appeared - artistic carving on wood "Tatyanka".

The history of the origin of woodcarving begins from the time when mankind only learned to use and process this material. This is due to the fact that at that time it was the most accessible and widespread material. Even in the distant past, our ancestors knew that wood has very valuable qualities, namely:

  • water resistance;
  • thermal insulation;
  • low density;
  • varied texture pattern.

In addition, many types of wood are very easy to harvest and process. In the old days, almost all buildings and home stuff were made from this material. Since ancient times, people have tried to decorate their lives by creating masterpieces of woodcarving. Moreover, this method of needlework developed in many countries, which left its mark on unique features, techniques and styles.

Wood carving not only adorned household dishes and buildings, but also carried a deeper ideological meaning. The simplest geometric flat-relief works were the first to appear. When decorating their home, the craftsmen hoped that in this way they would protect it from the influence of evil spirits, while attracting the bright forces of life, fertility and longevity. In addition, they created small figurines of gods who guarded their household.

Regional and author's styles

Due to the fact that many regions differ in tree species, climate and way of life, corresponding regional styles of this applied arts. In addition, some masters who come from different schools of wood carving, who have achieved success in this work, create their own new methods. Many of them organize exhibitions and win awards and become world famous. It is worth noting the following styles of this arts and crafts:

Separately, it is worth noting the Tatyanka style, which appeared at the end of the last century.

Author's style "Tatyanka"

This is a patented woodcarving style developed by master Sh. Sasykov, who named it after his wife. This master created a manual called "Russian woman woodcarving". Thanks to this book, many masters of this needlework have been trained. At present, there are more than 10 thousand people. The peculiarity of this style is that using a special tool, material processing is carried out only 1 time. This method is faster than other artistic methods.

The choice of material for the product

Wood for processing must be necessarily flat and smooth. The presence of knots is allowed, which will have to be bypassed during processing. Basswood is best suited for this method, as it is easy to work with and is especially suitable for beginner carvers. When choosing a board, you need to pay attention to the butt so that it is dense and uniform.

Of particular importance is the location of the fibers. It is desirable that they be located along the board, as the angle of the fibers will lead to unclean and splintery cuts.

It is also not recommended to expose the boards to moisture and keep them closed in a bag. This can lead to damage to the surface and the appearance of bacteria on them. It is best to store the material in rooms where there is no heating and sudden changes in temperature.

Job Description

When using this method, great attention should be paid to the equipment and maintenance of the workplace. Any flat surface is suitable for a young master: a workbench, a stool, a table, a window sill. best place there will be a table or a workbench, as they are heavy and have a flat tabletop. A drawing board or piece of plywood works well placed on any flat surface.

The board with which the master has to work is not attached in any way and is in a free state. Be sure the workplace must have sufficient illumination so that in no case the student has to strain his eyesight. It is best if the light is diffused and does not reflect from the surface of the table. The board must be periodically moistened, but not very much, to facilitate processing. Usually masters gradually determine the degree and frequency of moisturizing.

Carving tool

To facilitate learning this carving method, it is worth using a set of tools "Tatyanka". This set is just designed to work on plastic surfaces. If you use other tools, then this will greatly complicate the learning process, which will take much more time and the result will be worse. To make the simplest ornaments, 2 chisels and a knife with an oblique blade are usually used.

Chisels have a semicircular profile, if you put it perpendicular to the board and rotate around the axis, you get a circle. However, the most important tool for a beginner carver is a knife with an oblique blade. It is this tool that students begin to use. The width of its blade should be within 15-25 mm, and the thickness should not exceed 1.5 mm.

When starting to learn this art, it should be remembered that artistic wood carving requires constant training, which allows you to gradually improve the skills of creating carved products.

The art of wood carving is available to almost everyone, regardless of age, gender, and even the presence of artistic abilities. Such a statement, quite recently, would have seemed at least strange, but today it is confirmed by many years of experience of carvers and teachers working in the Tatyanka style of woodcarving.

This technique was born in 1990 as a result of the creative experiment of the master Shamil Sasykov and turned into a whole artistic system, which has already trained more than 10 thousand people. For some of them, carving "Tatyanka" has become an exciting hobby, for some it has become a favorite work, and for some it has simply opened the door to the world of carved art. You may also want to try your hand at this kind of creativity after getting acquainted with a series of lessons on carving "Tatyanka" for beginners, which we will publish on the site.

Workplace

Woodcarving is a fun but time-consuming process, so it is very important that your workplace is as comfortable as possible. For a carver in the Tatyanka style, any flat wooden plane, workbench, even the corner of a table or window sill, or even just a stool, will do. It is better, of course, that it be a table or workbench, heavy and resting against the wall, with a wooden top. But a polished table is also suitable, just put a piece of plywood or a drawing board measuring at least 20x20 cm on its surface. Then the tool will not break if it suddenly breaks and sticks into the tabletop. By the way, a very good material for the surface of the table is linden, aspen, spruce.

Please note that we do not fix the study board - it lies freely on the table - and often work without emphasis. It is important that you immediately get used to doing the work in this way, because the linden blanks are soft and dents form on their surface from resting on something hard.

Lighting

The work of the carver is quite painstaking, it requires clarity of execution and accuracy, therefore, everything should be clearly visible. Lighting is best to choose natural or modern with a wide spectrum. Not bad if the table is in front of the window and has additional lighting from any table lamp. The main thing is to make sure that the light does not shine from the board into the eyes.

Since the trace from the pencil is completely cut off during carving (“disappearing pattern”), then only pure wood remains without color contrast, but already with relief. If such a board is additionally illuminated from the side, then the unevenness of the relief casts shadows, and everything becomes clearly distinguishable.

Material

For wood carving, in principle, any wood is suitable, but only smooth, even, without defects and knots. Although, if desired, the master will be able to beat any curl or knot. We use blank boards or blanks, because we cut out, as if drawing on a sheet of paper, without taking into account the texture of the tree, and we develop the composition, guided only by the carving technique and design. Linden wood is best suited for our purposes. We can say with confidence that the most complex products in terms of technique and pattern, the most virtuoso and interesting carving in the style of "Tatyanka" are obtained on it. In addition, it is a fairly common tree species in our country, which is traditionally used in arts and crafts, for example, for the manufacture of blanks and forms for painting. Linden - the material is soft, plastic and convenient for carving. It is easily cut in almost all directions and does not require much physical strength, so both women and children can work with it.

When choosing a board for cutting educational ornaments, first of all, pay attention to its end - here the wood should be dense, uniform and not loose.

On the end of the board you can immediately see from which part of the log it was taken. The closer to the middle of the log, the steeper the annual rings are located to the surface of the board. In the middle (radial) board, the layers are located completely across, therefore, such boards have increased chipping in transverse cuts. The closer the board is to the bark, that is, to the edge of the log, where the layers are placed gently to the surface, the denser the wood. Such a board can be cut easily and freely: almost everywhere, a uniform density is maintained over the entire plane, and the carving is performed better.

It is bad when the layers are placed at an angle to the plane of the board, obliquely, forming an oblique layer. On the surface of such a board, it is easy to cut only in the direction of the fibers, but in the other direction - against the fibers it is more difficult: here the layers go down, so the chips from the chisel also go down. It is possible to cope with grief in half, but nevertheless, the cuts are most often unclean, splintery, and chips are formed. Thus, any inclusions, deviations from the "calm", "smooth" placement of layers complicate the carving process, especially for beginner carvers who do not have sufficient experience with wood.

Board storage

In between work, the board should not be kept in a bag or in a wet rag, otherwise various bacteria develop in the wood, it darkens and may become moldy.

Unheated rooms with street humidity are best suited for storing boards: a shed, a canopy, a bathhouse, a garage, a loggia or a balcony. I do not recommend keeping boards in the bathroom, refrigerator, basement or in the sun.

Humidity

During the carving process, the surface of the training board dries up all the time, so it must be constantly moistened to maintain it in working condition - about 12-15% moisture. This must be taken very seriously! Therefore, it is possible in advance, a few hours before work, to slightly moisten the board, soaking mainly the ends. Since all boards are different, you should personally analyze the results of wetting in practice and determine the duration of the soaking of the board.

But products, unlike boards, cannot be soaked. Especially glued boxes: they are deformed and can fall apart. Therefore, starting to work with a fresh workpiece, try to complete the work within a few days. To cut at a sufficient speed for this, first hone all the carving techniques and cut out the pattern on simple training boards. But, of course, there are some tricks. For example, a large product can be moistened locally with tampons, slightly wetting the top layer, but in no case allowing moisture to exceed five percent of the entire plane.

Tool

For convenience and clear organization educational process a special tool "Tatyanka" was developed, which has parameters designed specifically for working on soft plastic wood species and making a jewelry-thin, openwork and technically complex floral ornament "Tatyanka" from a single solid wood. Home-made or factory tools are of little use: they have a lot of marriage and inconsistencies, including in size, profile, thickness of the chisel blade, etc. Of course, if it is not possible to use a special tool to perform the techniques described in the lessons on Tatyanka, then can be adapted to work and other incisors. But in this case, practical training will be complicated, take more time, and the very nature of the thread will change.

To complete the first simple educational ornaments, you will need a minimal, so-called “three-piece” student set, which includes a joint knife, chisels No. 17 and No. 6.

Chisels

At the first stage of learning to carve "Tatyanka" it is best to start working with semicircular (radius) chisels of medium diameter. These are chisels with a blade profile having a part of a circle in cross section. If you put them end to end on the board and rotate around the axis, their blade should cut through the tree, closing the circle.

The chisels we use allow us to make a good, fairly deep cut and get a clear relief, while they are quite maneuverable and well suited for practicing the basic techniques of working with a tool.

Please note that in "Tatyanka" we do not use a hammer or a mallet - cutting a tree is done only by applying the effort of the hands. This, by the way, is very useful for the development of fine motor skills of hands like in children. school age as well as in adults.

joint knife

One of the main tools of the carver is the joint knife, named after the shape of the blade with an oblique cut. Knife-jamb "Tatyanka" is designed for a medium-sized hand. The length of the blade from the handle to the heel should be such that the heel does not reach 2 cm with its angle to the hand. And the length of the blade from the handle to the toe is determined by the distance to the heel at an angle of 45 degrees. The width of the blade blade should be in the range of 15-25 mm, and the thickness of the blade should be about 1.5 mm.

Good to know

How to deal with carving materials

First of all, pay attention to the end of the board - the wood should be dense, uniform and not loose, as in the picture.

On the end of the board you can immediately see from which part of the log it was taken. The closer to the middle of the log, the steeper the annual rings are located to the surface of the board.

The main sections of the trunk:

  1. Transverse - a cut passing perpendicular to the axis of the trunk and the direction of the fibers and forming the end plane of the trunk, board, bar. On the cross section of the trunk, the core, bark and wood with its annual layers are visible.
  2. Radial - a longitudinal section passing along the axis of the trunk through its core, such boards have increased chipping in transverse sections.
  3. Tangential - a longitudinal section passing at some distance from the core. The wood on these cuts has different kind and texture.

The closer the board is to the bark, the denser the wood. Such a board can be cut easily and freely: almost everywhere, a uniform density is maintained over the entire plane, and the carving is performed better.

Let me tell you a little about my carving tool.
When I started going to the wood carving club, I used the master's tool. And immediately began the dream of his own instrument.
The guy with whom I went to carving had a father who worked at some metallurgical plant and I ordered 2 semicircular chisels from him, then a friend of my brother gave me a couple more cutters, 2 knives and 2 semicircular chisels a familiar artist, 1 knife guy from the yard. Steel is a good tool, I use them now.

Then one day a plumber came to our house to repair a tap and we started talking, I told him that I was carving. And he said that he had a set of Soviet cutters at home and he wanted to give it to me) I was extremely happy and jumped to the ceiling, he went home and brought it. It was cool, they were not even sharpened!) I especially liked the knife, it was my favorite tool for a long time. Cut nice and straight. He kept his sharpness for a long time, Soviet incisors are cool incisors!

Then I had a break with carving, and there was nowhere to sharpen knives and cutters.
Then I began to look for shops and markets, tents where I could buy cutters. But did not find.
Didn't learn much about sharpening the tool I had, but it was very clumsy.
After some time, I found the page tatianka.ru on the Internet, but at that moment there were only domestic cutters and knives to choose from, and I ordered a couple of knives and chisels for myself, so my arsenal began to replenish))

I saved up money and bought myself a small set of 12 Tatyanka incisors. I like it, now I use it. I cut out a box with it. The steel is not bad, but of course it cannot be compared with Pfeil, they often need to be corrected on the skin with GOI paste and then undermined. They are only suitable for soft woods (linden, alder, maple, birch).

Then, at that time, my girlfriend (and now my wife) gave me a set of 7 knives for my birthday, I was very happy. I cut out a frame for a mirror with them), a box with a geometric pattern and a donation box.

In the Leroy Merlin store, I found cutters from the Czech company Narex and of course I could not resist and bought them. (Who seeks always finds). The cutters are good, the steel is better than Tatyanka's, but they also cost 2 times more.

When I was in Moscow on a business trip, passing through or visiting friends, I went to the Tatyanka store on Baumanskaya. Of course, I really liked the Pfeil cutters there and I bought myself a couple of knives.
They showed themselves well in work, remain sharp for a long time, cut wood well and cleanly, both soft and hard (beech, oak were cut with them).
Now I have several cutters and Pfeil knives and they are my favorite, because. it is a very good tool. Their cost is from 500 rubles. (the cheapest knife) and higher, but in my opinion this is not an overpayment for the brand, but the purchase of a good and high-quality tool (once again this is my opinion, not everyone may agree with me, but I think so).

I also got an interesting Bahco knife. I bought it for 4 euros, not a bad price for a good knife. Perfectly cuts paper and wood, both soft and hard.

I like to store incisors in fabric twists, drawers:

I also sign my incisors.

One small tip, if for some reason you do not use knives, cutters, then lubricate the cuts with any tool oil (I use WD-40) so that they do not rust.

I think that all carvers will agree with me that there are never enough cutters)))) but at the same time I am a supporter of reasonableness, there is never a lot of money, so you need to try to buy the tool that will be used and will pay for itself, and will not just lie without affairs.
And finally, about dreams))) I want to earn money and buy myself this wonderful suitcase of the same beloved Pfeil company:

There are many others good producers both domestic and foreign who produce and sell carving tools, I wrote about my own.
I want to add links to some of the resources that I use where you can look for tools, accessories, equipment and everything you need for a carver and a good Craftsman forum.
