How and with what to write mourning tablets. Production of ritual tablets

A plaque on the grave of a loved one is a traditional way to mark a burial and distinguish it from many others. In ancient times, it was made of wood or iron. Nowadays, you can often find products made of composite materials, granite, aluminum, brass, plastic. The technique of applying inscriptions on the front side has also been improved. Previously, it was an ordinary engraving, which over time lost its original appearance due to bad weather. Now thermal printing, laser engraving, appliqué, graverton and other technologies are used for production. Such a plaque on the grave is able to withstand harsh climatic conditions for 10-15 years.

The plate on the crosses and on the grave in Moscow

The tablet for crosses is a small rectangle made of the appropriate material, on which statements about the buried are given. As a rule, this is:

  • full name of the deceased;
  • date of birth and date of death.

Around the inscription draw a vignette or frame from a strict frame. If space permits, a plaque on a grave in Moscow and the Moscow Region may contain farewell words from relatives and friends. An epitaph is usually limited to a few phrases. For the deceased, your true feelings are more important than flowery expressions.

The plate on the grave made of natural stone can serve as a monument. It is somewhat larger and is mounted on special metal supports. Various drawings can be applied to it: the image of the deceased, angels, candles or other symbols. The budget version of the tombstone sometimes lasts 15-20 years.

The price of the ritual tablet on the grave

Grave plaque. Photo

The formation of the price of a ritual tablet for a grave takes place in several stages.

Special purpose. Do you want to order a small plaque for a temporarily installed cross, or will it be a long-lasting reminder of the burial?

The choice of material. Granite or marble will come out more expensive, but can stand for decades. Plastic or metal plates are not so wear resistant.

Size and form factor. The more refined and larger the plate, the higher its cost.

Decor. A strict inscription, without decorations, is a democratic option. A vignette or drawing increases the price of the product.

Imaging technology. Manual engraving requires special skills, laser engraving requires expensive tools and precise application. There are also budget techniques for temporary plates on crosses.

Only having decided on all the factors outlined, it will be possible to calculate what the final price of a ritual tablet for a grave will be.

Order a plaque on the grave site

Organizing a funeral is a troublesome procedure that takes a lot of effort from relatives and friends. Sometimes such nuances as ordering a ritual plate for mounting on a grave cross are ignored. The ritual agency Ritual.ru has been taking care of conducting a worthy burial rite for the dead Muscovites and residents of the Moscow region for a quarter of a century. Our employees show special care for details and the burial ceremony, commemoration and other mourning events always take place without overlaps.

Modern technologies make it possible to produce plates using laser engraving, sublimation printing, computer engraving, spraying. But all of them require expensive equipment and are not available for home use.

The proposed technology for the manufacture of metal plates is available for self-production with minimal time and cost. The photograph shows a self-made ritual metal plate mounted on a tombstone cross.

Grinding and polishing the plate base

Almost any sheet material that can withstand heating temperatures up to 200°C can be used as a base for the plate. Aluminum is best suited, as it is easy to work with and weather resistant, which is important if the sign is to be installed outdoors, such as an address or house number.

For the manufacture of a ritual tablet from sheet aluminum with a thickness of 2 mm, a plate measuring 148 × 200 mm was cut using a metal hacksaw and four holes were drilled in the corners, at a distance of 8 mm from the edge, for fastening with a diameter of 6 mm.

The surface of the plate base was covered with scratches and had other mechanical defects. Therefore, before applying the inscription, the surface was polished with fine-grained sandpaper using a surface grinder. To prevent movement of the table base during grinding, it was fixed on a plywood sheet using four self-tapping screws screwed into the holes in the corners.

After polishing, the surface of the base of the tablet acquired a uniform matte surface, on which a drawing can be applied, but I wanted a mirror finish, and therefore I decided to polish it further.

To do this, instead of sandpaper, felt rubbed with GOI paste was fixed on a grinding machine. There are many brands of polishing pastes available, and you can use any one designed for polishing metal.

In order to spend less energy on pressing the grinder, you can put a load of a couple of kilograms on it.

After an hour of grinding and polishing, the surface of the base for the tablet acquired a mirror surface and surrounding objects began to be reflected in it.

Making a template for a plate

To create a ritual tablet template, you need to upload one of the files below to Word and edit it. To make a plate using the proposed technology, it is necessary to mirror the image. Some printers allow you to set the print mode to Mirror in Properties. If you have such a printer and everything suits you, then you can print the template and start making the plate.

The latest versions of Word also have this option, but you can achieve a much better result when converting an image using Photoshop, as it allows you to change the size and placement of the inscriptions, which Word cannot do.

The easiest way to transfer a picture of a plate from Word to Photoshop is through the computer's clipboard. To do this, in Word, click on the Preview icon, zoom in so that the plate occupies the maximum screen area, and press the PrtSc key on the keyboard.

The next step is to crop the image to cut off all unnecessary, using the Frame tool in the vertical panel on the left.

To change the size of the inscriptions, you need to sequentially select each word with a rectangular frame, as shown in the photo, and select the Edit / Free Transform tool.

At the next step after editing, the picture needs to be mirrored and the dimensions of the sides should be set. To perform a mirror image, you need to select the entire plate image with the rectangular area tool and select Image / Image Rotation / Display Canvas Horizontally.

Now it remains only to set the required dimensions of the plate. To do this, click Size / Image Size in the top menu and enter the required dimensions in centimeters in the boxes, and save the ritual plate template prepared for printing.

The photo shows a mirror positive of a do-it-yourself template. If desired, the olive branch can be replaced with any other pattern, such as an asterisk or a cross, drawn by yourself or taken from the Internet.

Drawing a picture on the surface of the plate base

Drawing on a plate is easiest to do using a template printed on a laser printer. In the printer, the toner is fixed on the paper by melting the powder deposited on it after heating to 200°C. When reheated, the toner becomes liquid again. This property of the toner is used to transfer the pattern from the surface of the paper to the plate. I note that a printout from an inkjet printer is not suitable for these purposes, since in it the drawing is applied with ink.

Modern laser printers apply a very thin layer of toner to the paper during printing, and to obtain a high-quality image on a plate, you need to print the image three times on one sheet. Due to the inaccurate positioning of the paper in the printer tray, the edges of the character pattern will be slightly blurred, but in this case it does not really matter, since the width and height of the letters and numbers are large.

When making a template for a plate, you can use any water-soluble paper, for example, for office printing. But I prefer tracing paper, because the drawing is clearly visible through it, and therefore it is convenient to position the template on the basis of the plate, and the tracing paper lags behind the toner better.

For high-quality transfer of toner from paper to the surface of the plate base, it is necessary to ensure its uniform and tight fit. To do this, five layers of newspaper were placed on the template, then pressed with a plate similar to the base of the tablet. The plate was made at the same time as the base of the tablet to fix it on the cross. With the help of screws, the plates were attracted to each other.

Next, this sandwich was placed in an electric oven and, when the temperature reached 200°C, it was aged for an hour, followed by cooling. For the reliability of the fit of the template, a load of several kilograms was installed in the center of the plate.

After cooling to room temperature, the tablet was placed in water for several hours to dehydrate the paper, and then the tracing paper was removed under a water jet. The quality of the drawing is quite high. In case of unsuccessful application of the inscription, it is possible to easily remove the toner with a rag soaked in acetone and, taking into account the experience gained, reapply.

According to the idea, it was supposed to apply the inscription with a toner and etch the metal around it with the help of an etching solution. Then remove the toner with acetone and leave the mirror letters. But when the paper was removed, it turned out that the tablet looks great and the black letters for the mourning tablet are quite appropriate. If desired, the toner can be coated on top with paint of any color. Therefore, it remains only to apply a thin protective waterproof layer in the form of epoxy resin.

A small amount of epoxy was applied down the center and then smoothed over the surface in a thin layer with a card. A few hours later, the plate was ready for installation.

Before transferring the toner and coating the plate with a protective layer, it is imperative to degrease the surface. To do this, it is enough to wash it with a brush with laundry soap or any dish detergent.

Plate fixing

Since the cross was an ornate structure, and there was no desire to drill holes in it, it was decided to fix the plate with an additional aluminum plate of the same size as the plate.

Fastening was done with four M5 screws 50 mm long. To make it impossible to remove the plate without a tool, two nuts were used, tightly tightened together.

The photograph shows a grave cross with a ritual tablet fixed on it, made by hand at home. As you can see, the plate looks quite decent and is well readable from a distance of several meters.

We value the trust of people who order from us in Moscow ritual plates for crosses made of stainless steel or other materials. And so we try to justify this trust every day, performing engraving quickly, beautifully and inexpensively.

Then various kinds of plates are made, fixed in the right place.

It is possible to make a plaque on a monument using a wide range of materials. The choice will have to be made based on how and what exactly will be applied to it. It also takes into account whether the installation is carried out for a while while the monument is being made, or whether a permanent version is already being installed.

The temporary plaque plate is usually made of plastic. Production from such material has the lowest price. And everything you need can be applied quickly and efficiently.

A natural stone

When applying by hand engraving, performing bas-reliefs and ornaments, natural stone will be an ideal option. But it is impossible to use engraving immediately on the surface of the monument, since the base stone does not lend itself well to this type of processing. For the plate, they take a stone that is optimal in texture and contrasting in color with the main stone, but easier to process.

Plates can be fixed with bolts (stainless steel), liquid nails. If the basis of the monument is an artificial stone, then the tablet can be immediately poured into the mold when making tombstones and monuments. As a rule, you can order such a plate in any granite workshop.

Metal

Metal allows you to apply letters and images by computer. There is practically no such image that computer engraving could not recreate. The quality of the metal alloy and the procedure by which the image was applied affects the duration of the preservation of the original appearance. Such plates are attached to self-tapping screws.

Ceramics, enamel, porcelain

Photoceramics is the most common type of drawing images and inscriptions. Color images may be used. Such plates are fastened with self-tapping screws or with the help of "liquid nails". Production of ceramics for monuments can be mass-produced.

The disadvantage is the fragility of the image. Under the influence of the environment, the colors lose their brightness. Yes, and a plate plate made of ceramics does not have the degree of strength that, for example, steel can boast.

Plastic

The image is printed on a plate and then laminated. It is used as a temporary solution as the image fades very quickly and plastic itself is not a durable material.

Glass

The production of glass plates is not mass-produced. Usually these are monuments, tombstones and memorials made according to individual order and design. Glass, as a rule, is tempered, inscriptions and images are applied in the form of computer or laser engraving.

Many firms for the manufacture of monuments offer to order and buy a monument to the grave. The choice should be made in favor of the one that will provide the full range of services. Our company has a well-equipped workshop, which allows us to provide a full range of services, including the production of plaques for monuments in Moscow and the region.

The plate on a monument is a necessary element. All information about the deceased is applied to it. It can be either part of the monument or installed in its place. Ritual tablets are made in the cemetery of any form. Our company is engaged in their production: the cost is calculated individually depending on the size and material. The approximate price of a standard granite plate is from 4,000 rubles.

Forms and materials of plates

If a plaque is made for a monument, then its shape and size are chosen for it and for the photo of the deceased. In our company, we produce plates of square, rectangular, round and oval shapes. Depending on the gender of the deceased, even and straight lines are more often used for male portraits, while rounded, smooth curves are more suitable for female portraits.

The plate on the grave is made of materials such as granite, marble, plastic and metal. Iron and plastic are short-lived, so they are mainly made for temporary monuments. The process of creating them is quite fast and simple. Tombstones made of natural stones are more reliable, therefore they serve as decoration for monumental structures.

A photograph is applied to plastic gravestones using a special printer. We do both black and white and color images. The finished product is coated with laminating and protective compounds, and then attached to the monument. The manufacture of iron ritual tablets is carried out from stainless steel. Images and drawings on them in our company are applied using computer engraving or milling. They are mounted on the monument with self-tapping screws.

A marble or granite plaque for a grave is a durable, reliable and durable product. The process of creating them is more complex. For their production, we use high-quality rock mined in our own quarry. At our factory, the stone is cut into plates 2-5 cm thick. The rest of the dimensions are specified by the customer based on the size of the monument. After the plate on the tombstone is cut, it is polished, engraved (name, years of life, photograph and various patterns) and, if desired, polished.

Plate options

In addition to plaques for the monument itself, the company manufactures memorial plaques made of granite — small commemorative plates that contain information about the merits of the deceased. A memorial plaque is installed at the burial site next to the grave or on the walls of the building and structure where he lived or worked. Inscriptions and drawings on such granite plates are applied by engraving. Sometimes gilding of letters is used.

We can also make a plaque on the grave instead of a monument. With this design of the burial place, a rectangular slab of natural stone is made. It is attached to one or two legs, with the help of which ritual tablets are mounted on the grave. A color or black-and-white engraving of the portrait of the deceased, full name, years of his life and epitaph is applied to such a plate. You can order a ritual tablet made of granite or marble of any size and color.
